Low Back Pain

Low back pain affects 1 in 3 adults in the UK every year. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) published their guidelines for low back pain in 2009and specify Osteopathy as an effective treatment.

There are many different causes of back pain. Sitting at a computer for long hours every day can place increased pressure on the lower back. A poor driving position, awkward lifting, overstraining whilst doing activities such as gardening or DIY are all common causes.

There are several different structures that can cause you pain when you injure your back including over-strained muscles, joint inflammation and ligament damage.

Osteopathy can help by offering,

Assessment:An examination to determine the cause of your symptoms

Treatment: Deep soft tissue manipulation to reduce muscle tension and improve tissue elasticity.  Joint mobilisation  to promote greater range of movement in the back and free trapped nerves.

Prevention: Postural guidance and safe exercises to make your body stronger and more flexible, so that your symptoms don’t keep coming back.
